- God uses trials to protect us.
- Genesis 50:20 – you intended it for evil, but God meant it for good.
- Deut 6:24 – What God does for us is for our good always.
- 2 Corinthians 5:7 – for we walk by faith and not by sight
- God uses trials to perfect us.
- Proverbs 20:30 – “Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, as do stripes the inner depths of the heart.”
- James 1:2-3 – count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. Let patience have her perfect work.
- Romans 5:3-4 – we glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces endurance, and endurance character, and character hope. And hope does not disappoint.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 – My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
- Hebrews 12:9-11 – we endure trials and are trained by them now that we might later enjoy divine and eternal peace.
- In a practical sense, we are what we are as the result of our response to God’s tests:
- The character issues associated with elder and deacon qualifications reveal a man’s response to a lifetime of testing and trials.
- Every Christian should seek excellency in these areas of character, ultimately being conformed to the image of Jesus.
- “People are like tea bags, you don’t know their strength until you place them in hot water.”
- The same sun that melts wax also hardens clay.
